The seven chakras are specific vital centers in the body that influence different aspects of our selves. The seven chakras are energy vortexes than rule our spiritual, mental, physical and emotional well being, providing a solid foundation for the ones evolvement of personal energy.
From a neuro-physiological angle the chakras are represented as nerve plexuses from the spinal column and endocrine glands that connect with the internal organs. At the base of the spine we locate the first chakra and is connected to the sacral plexus, the rectum, the prostrate gland and the male reproductive organs.

The second chakra, just below the navel is associated to the prostatic plexus, the adrenal glands, the female reproductive organs and the kidneys.
The third chakra is associated with solar plexus, the spleen, the pancreas, the liver and the gall bladder.
The fourth chakra is referred to as the heart chakra. It is connected to the cardiac plexus, the thymus gland and the pericardium.
The fifth chakra is associated the thyroid gland at the level of the throat that regulates the basal metabolism, that is the amount of energy consumed by the body at rest. The fifth chakra is connected to the vagas nerve and the cervical ganglion.
The sixth chakra relates to the pituitary gland.
Finally but not least the seventh chakra is associated with the pineal gland.
Lets look a little deeper into each aspect of the seven chakras …
The first chakra is associated with survival. The core principal is to protect oneself as a separate being. Thus, includes the development of a sense of security in life. Ones insecurity has the tendency to attach oneself to an intimate relationship, a job or a religion. A weak and unbalanced first chakra leads to a lack of a strong developed identity and purpose in life if deficient and an over emphasis on attachment to material worth leading to self-indulgence with a touch of selfishness if in excess.
The second chakra rules our impulses geared towards sexuality and creativity. An imbalance of the second chakra can lead to sexual problems, such as impotency if deficient and sexuality can dominate one’s life leading to sexual frustrations, thoughts and excessive fantasies if in excess. Physically, the imbalance can lead to a weak, saggy and flabby stomach region, causing kidney or bladder weaknesses and other urinary problems if deficient. Otherwise the abdominals could be constricted and tight causing tension to build in the lower back if in excess.
The third chakra is the ‘energy’ center of the body. A deficiency results in an overwhelmed feeling where an excess leads to aggression or greediness. The organs related to the third chakra regulate how centered we feel during the day relative to our mental faculties and our level of self motivation.
The fourth chakra relates to are willingness to love, to open up ones heart and to give. An imbalance of the fourth chakra, the heart centre can cause one to be insensitive if in excess and hypersensitive or a feeling of emptiness within the heart cavity if deficient. A blocked heart centre shows one to be cold, inhibited or showing passivity. The fourth chakra also governs joyfulness and is the master control centre for mastering emotions.
The fifth chakra controls sound and for those who talk softly this would indicate a deficiency where a loud and boisterous voice would indicate an excess. The fifth chakra is associated with the power to communicate and the ability to self express. Difficulties in expressing oneself would indicate a block in the fifth chakra which could mean the difference between a feeling of insecurity and being in control of ones life.
The sixth chakra aids in developing the intellect and where a blockage often forms as a frontal headache or the inability to think clearly. These headaches and confused thoughts could be the result of a blockage in the digestive system affecting the sixth chakra.
The seventh chakra rules the universal consciousness and when the centre at the top of the head is opened there are little limitations in terms of time and space. The pineal gland, located in the centre of the brain is the core component of the seventh chakra.
Chakra balancing and chakra healing is achieved through intensive meditation, exercise through the practice of yoga, proper breathing and a nutritious diet.
